The Department of General surgery is one of the larger departments of the school of medicine, providing teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students in general surgery. It also provides teaching to postgraduate students from other surgical specialties such as Orthopedics and traumatology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology and Emergency Medicine. The Department offers two Master of Medicine programmes in Surgery and Urology and a super-specialty training programme, the MSc in Surgical Hepato-gastroenterology.
