Dr. Alex Coutinho is a global health leader who has practiced medicine and managed public health organizations in Africa for over thirty years. In addition to serving as executive director for PIH/IMB, he is also the outgoing chair of the Board for the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. Dr. Coutinho has been involved with the HIV/AIDS epidemic since 1982 when the first cases emerged in Uganda. Over the years, he has directly provided care to patients and overseen the implementation of large-scale HIV treatment and prevention programs.
