23rd Ordinary Meeting of the Sectoral Council of Health

The Session of Senior Officials of the 23rd Ordinary Meeting of the Sectoral Council on Health was held in Bujumbura, Burundi using a combination of face-to-face and virtual (Zoom) sessions, from 06th to 08th February 2023, in accordance with the EAC Calendar of Activities for the period January to December 2023.

The was attended by delegates from the EAC Partner States’ National Ministries responsible for Health, Ministries responsible for EAC Affairs as well as representatives from the EAC Partner States’ National Health Research and Academic Institutions, the EAC National Reference Medical Laboratories, the EAC and East African Health Research Commission, National Medicines Regulatory Authorities (NMRAs), the EAC National Medical and Public Health Laboratory Regulatory Authorities, Medical Boards and Councils, Nursing Councils, Pharmacy Councils, Traditional Medicine Experts, Public Health and Technicians’ Councils and Medical Laboratory Board and Experts of the six (6) EAC Regional Technical Working Groups on Health (TWGs).

The meeting discussed on matters of implementation of decisions and directives of the EAC Sectoral Council on Health, emerging outbreaks in the EAC region, EAC Technical Working Group on Health Systems and Policy, EAC Technical Working Group on the Regulation of Health Professions, EAC Technical Working Group on the Prevention and Control of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases, EAC Joint Technical Working Group on Reproductive Maternal New-born Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) and HIV&AIDS & Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), EAC Technical Working Group on Medicines, Food Safety and Health Technologies, and matters arising from the East African Health Research Commission.
