This project uses the approach of collaborative quality improvement (QI), which is a bottom-up problem solving method that can be used to strengthen health systems. When applied to maternal and newborn health, it can be used to improve both the quality of and the demand for maternal and newborn health services. To achieve measurable improvements we are integrating the quality improvement strategy at District level health system and regional level.

Ultimately, we aim to achieve higher quality of maternal and newborn health care services, better care seeking, and improved maternal and newborn healthcare outcomes. Quality improvement teams are formed at the council health management team (CHMT), health facilities and community levels.
