Specific objective:

  • Measurement of the demographic, behavioural and epidemiological factors that are expected to be associated with HIV incidence in female sex workers in Mombasa.
  • Adjusting the intrinsic microbicide effects (efficacy) for bias originating from non-random selection, loss to follow-up, and indirect effects of microbicides via changes in sexual behaviour.
  • Development and projection of model simulations for different scenarios of efficacy, uptake and adherence of microbicides in the study population.
  • These simulations will display for each scenario what the expected impact of microbicides on HIV incidence and HIV prevalence is within the given socio-demografic / epidemiological setting.
