All institutions that provide pharmacy education and training should abide with standards set by the Pharmacy Council before are registered by the National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE) or Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

Pursuant to the Pharmacy Act, Cap 311, the Council has a number of important functions related to the education and training of pharmacists, pharmaceutical technicians, pharmaceutical assistants and medicines dispensers.
