Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is ongoing learning by which persons maintains, broadens and improves their professional competence throughout their working life. CPD enables registered persons to develop in their area of practice and demonstrate competence. CPD is mandatory. Regulation 46 (1) of the Pharmacy (Registration of Pharmacists, Enrollment of Pharmaceutical Technicians and Enlisting of Pharmaceutical Assistants) Regulations of 2005 states that it shall be a duty of every pharmacist, enrolled pharmaceutical technician to attend a CPD once a year and that Regulation 46 (3): The Council may suspend a pharmacist, pharmaceutical technician or pharmaceutical assistant who fails to attend such a course.
